CHOLERA. Cholera is caused by the bacteria Vibrio cholera that spreads among humans through food and water. The disease develops in the intestine and causes diarrhea, pain around the navel, kidney pain and vomiting. Cholera leads to death in most cases. Frequent outbreaks of cholera occur in Africa and South America.
